Unbelievable! 40,000 Barrels of Oil/Day!

Remember when BP was claiming that only 5,000 barrels of oil was leaking into the Gulf Of Mexico? Well, we now have further confirmation that BP was wrong. According to the head of the U.S. Geological Survey, the oil leak was 20,000 to 40,000 barrels per day. That's as much as 1.7 million gallons of oil.

Read the article.

So far, British Petroleum has put a cap on the leak point, but I don't think that we've seen the full consequences of this crisis. If you live in the Gulf area, read the following sentences carefully.

Develop an emergency plan immediately. Not only show you have an emergency supply of food and water, but you should have an emergency bag and a thorough plan to get out of your area.

  1. I like your new template. Good work on learning how to do that.

  2. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we actually had 70,000+ barrels cranking out of that well daily.

There have also been reports of ruptures in the see floor that could be adding to the mess, and may be very difficult to stop.

Potentially, we could have 100,000+ spewing into the ocean. Of course, we will never know if we depend on BP's numbers.

Wikipedia is listing this as, at a minimum, #4 of all time if we count at 18,500 bpd. We know it is more than this, so this could easily go #2...

We could be talking serious catastrophe on a variety of different fronts including ecological and economic.

Good advice on the emergency plan... What about the next hurricane, likely to come because of increased water temperature? We could be talking mass evacuations along the entire gulf coast in anticipation of oil storm surge, oil rain, toxic fumes, etc.
