So Much for INNOCENT until Proven GUILTY!

So much for innocent until proven guilty. When famed hip hop choreographer Shane Sparks (of "America's Best Dance Crew" and "So You Think You Can Dance") was arrested for child molestation, I was not only stunned by the charges, but I was amazed by how many people on the forums automatically believed that he was guilty. Authorities are claiming that he had sexual relations with a 15 year old female student.

But here's the odd thing, this incident apparently happened over a decade ago. Why did the alleged victim wait this long to come forward? Isn't there a statute of limitations?

Now his attorney, Steve Meister, is saying that Shane was facing extortion.

Let me make myself clear, I'm not saying that he is innocent or guilty. I'm only saying that we should give the accused the benefit of the doubt. The accused must be considered innocent until proven guilty if we are going to have a fair justice system.

Why do you think?

  1. Hmm. Makes me wonder why anyone would want to be famous. As soon as you're famous all the weirdos start coming out the woodwork asking for money or making stories up to get money from you.

  2. Not just famous. Not just black. It's EVERYBODY. The justice system assumes you're guilty, and it's damned difficult to extricate yourself once you're enmeshed.

  3. Yeah, it amazes how people just assume that you're guilty.
